Sateenkaari-sock

Nic and me went for a long weekend to rural South Germany, and boy was that relaxing! The weather was very nice for the first two days, so I just sat on the porch, sunbathing and knitting. Here's what I accomplished.

The pattern is from a Finnish knitting web-magazine Ulla, and it's called Sateenkaarisukat (rainbow socks). Mine are not so 'rainbowish' due to different wool, but pretty anyway. I knit this on 3mm needles, the small modification I made is in the ankle - I didn't do the pattern across, I found this prettier.

Ankle socks

I'm so excited, this is my first-ever knitalong/such!

I'll start with finishing the ankle socks.

That has taken longer than expected, as I'm actually at the moment knitting the third sock of these. No, I haven't mutated, but I just noticed after finally learning the reason for my very loose knitting from Lisa  in the WWKIP (continental knitting just is looser!) I have paid special attention to my tension. Which, of course led to the second sock being much tenser than the first. So I frogged the first one and am re-knitting it now. My fear is only, that the first sock (the originally-second) might seem too loose after this one...

Anyhow, I can't wait to cast on the next one with one of these beauties!

Don't have a pattern decided yet, though.

Finally a clowdy evening to blog, it's been too beautiful to sit next to the computer.

Like everyone else was at the World Wide Knit In Public day in St.Stephens green on Saturday. Read all about it in Lien's blog, and even more from Diane's or Laura's. There must be more but these are the ones I found / the most comprehensive ones. What can I add? It was great fun and I hope to do these things more often (but this time not to tell it to the Irish Times to avoid conflicts with the police - see Lien's for more on this funny incident).

I knitted a few rows of  Samuel's scarf and the legs of an Apupupu-bunny, for Finnish charity.

Sock start

Sunday was a Hot Day. Brilliant, beautiful sunny day. That calls out for relaxing in the Pheonix Park, knitting the second Ankle Sock, hiding in the tall grass and cuddling the lovely Nic *not published by the wish of the photoshoot object*

Of course I burned myself in the process.  Anyhow, that didn't matter too much, because once we got home we started preparing a barbeque; a a few friends were coming over and we tried out best to make the table respectable. I think we succeeded

The guests seemed happy and content too, after a lot of vegetarian grilling, noodles, rice, blue cheese filled grilled mushtooms and some mango sherbet I made. Next time we'll cook Italian!

What do you think? I love it.

It's been raining the whole day today! I woke up listening to rain, and have been looking at it really the complete day; there's been no pause whatsoever.

Luckily our backyard jungle seems to enjoy it.

I've also been working on my ankle socks, comfortably indoors.

The pattern is from Alison and I definately like it, but I'm not quite sure whether I did the heel turning correctly. It did turn, and it's looking fine, but somehow I missed quite a lot of stitches on the way. I cast them back on, because I couldn't fathom where I'd lost them, but now I think the sock is looking / feeling far too wide and big!

Zeepy's bag
Zeepy's bag

See, I made it!

Knitted from acrylic but pretty nice yarn, with 5mm needles, exactly according to the instructions (and of course without gauge swatching - it ended up bigger than the original).

I also knitted the side in a lighter colour, and added some basic cabling.

The bag hasn't got any pockets, but it may get one or two; I'm hoping of using it as a knitting bag, as it's pretty 'stretchy' and will not be suitable for heavy objects.

Hooray for me for finishing my biggest object since!
