Here it is, the first printed knitting shirt by Shirts of Berlin! I adore it, and wore to work three days in row. They are for sale here at shirtsofberlin .
I overdid myself and made a Christmas dinner before me and Nick travel to his kin for the Christmas. I made two of my favourites, lanttulaatikko and porkkanalaatikko: casseroles, one made out of swedes, one of carrots. I called my mum and asked for some advise, and also took some tips from the net. Porkkanalaatikko I made already last year, but this is my first ever lanttulaatikko!
Well, I tried my best, and finally they were ready.
The table is still missing the peas and potatoes.
I would dare to say that they were quite good. Take a loot at the table about 30 minutes later, and bare in mind it was only me and Nick:
Success!

I stumbled across this page today, and was so impressed that I decided to share it with you. It's called www.storyofstuff.com and it comprises of a 20-minute video and accompanying information.
The video is about consumption: where our stuff comes from, how it's made, how we consume it and the toss it. The video shows this ever-growing consuming chain's true cost to the world. That ain't no pocket money, I'll tell you that!
Annie Leonard talks in clear words about how the idea of consuming as a higher good came to be after the WW2, and how it's ruined the planet and its people's happiness. Her message is also shown as lovely and very fitting animations. After you've watched the film, you can browse the page and find good tips on what you and I can do to stop this train of desctruction.

To knit from the stash - in which there is a lot of tiny amounts of acrylic novelty yarns - I developed this fun scrap scarf: basically knitting stripes longways across the scarf, and making up the sequence as I go along.
I originally made one for a Christmas present, and it was such a fun bit of easy knitting, I made another one, which I finished today.
I used different kinds of eyelash yarn, some neon blue mohair mix, supersoft baby yarn (the scarf is supposed to be worn, after all!) and leftovers of chunky wools. I knit it all insize 10 mm needles, longways. I haven't got a clue how many stitches or rows I have. Result: a very soft and lovely 'alternative punk' scarf (that's what Nick said).
Me and Nick have designed some knitting themed merchandise (or Nick has if I have to be really honest, but I talked him into it!)
At the moment we offer coffee cups on the US trough Zazzle and black t-shirts in Ireland trough Shirtsofberlin. The pictures here are direct links to Shirtsofberlin, to the shirt itself. The cups can unfortunately be delivered only to the US! T-shirts can be ordered from pretty much anywhere, but the postage for orders outside Europe might be quite high. We are working on the canvas totes and v-neck t-shirts with non-cat motives, they should be in soon. Watch this space!

This week has not been the best knit-wise.
First, I started a beautiful pair of Baudelaire socks a while back, and this weekend I did the first heel. It came out so sloppy and big, I had to rip back (I was already doing the leg when I decided the heel is just too bad) long to the foot part. What a drag, but I did it, and the sock is so much better now!
I turned the heel with 72 stitches instead of the 84 the pattern calls for. I am using much bigger yarnd and needles than the pattern, though. The pattern itself is so beautiful and not at all so difficult as I thought.
The Kool aid dyed yarn in balls - I can't wait to knit something of them!
Värjäsin lankoja viikko sitten, nyt sain ne kerille!
I got some nice looking cat designs from Nic. Aren't they lovely? Hopefully I will get one of it on a T-shirt.
I had wanted to try Kool Aid dyeing for a while, and when I got several balls of unnamed white wool when a friend of mine was destashing, and Sinead was leaving for the US in a few weeks for holidays. What better opportunity to try! I asked her to bring some sachets, and I got them this week in the Borders Knit and natter evening. So, Saturday night I got to it. I first studied the instructions, and put the wool for a bath (pic 1).
Pic 2: The lovely colours.
Pic 3: The atelier
Pic 4: After 30 minutes of wetting the wool I got to the actual business. First try - variegated yarn with Cherry and Grape. Very nice! On this I applied the colour water with a spoon.
finished and sent off some Calorimetries and a cat bed to Ompelukerho . I got the Calorimetries' designers approval for making several of them and selling them for charity. The cat bed might be given as a present to an animal shelter (based on Princess Snowball catbed from S'n'B Handbook).
I hope they get some money for the animals with my knits!
Neuloin Ompelukerholle joulumarkkina-myytäviä!
