I've knit scarves!

I went to Finland for a couple of days, to meet my family and to relax a bit. What better way to relax than going to the sauna every day, and learning to knit entrelac (not simultaneously, mind you). I cast on and made some progress on the Danica scarf during the 5 days I was there.

Knitted on 5mm needles, yarn is Lana Grossa's Furetto I got for Christmas.

The scarf is knitting up so quickly and beautifully! I am in love with this beautiful yarn, which is wool, alpaca and acrylic. It's perfect for the entrelac project, as many colours are just enough for one square. It brings a lovely effect to the scarf.

Pursenalities

Bought the book Pursenalities by Eva Wiechmann a few days back. Got it as second hand, and hadn't seen it before - it just sounded so good!

It has 20 lovely felted bags in it, all of them seem easy enough, and a few are truly beautiful! A few I don't like, but that's normal. They are all made with Cacade 220 yarn, which I can't get here, so substitutes will need to be found... so the book will sit in my shelf for a while before I knit something from it, as I am trying to limit my yarn purchases.

Anyhow, for a 5 euro purchase it was a good buy and I am sure the book will fulfill it's purpose at some point.

Hot water bottle cozies

What do you know, I have many things on the needles: a pair of socks, a bag, a scarf and tunisian crochet, but of course then some bug bites me and I just have to start and finish two hot water bottle cozies in a few day's time. My only excuse is that the bottles are really new, and in need of cozies. Well, here they are.

The left one is made with scraps and ends of ToppTå Norwegian chunky yarn. I love it, and it is vert suitable for this purpose. Test report by Nick: excellent - the hot water bottle was warm after 12 hours in this cozy. Toasty!

Nick did a lot of work on these, and I made a big update today at the shops, but now they are well stocked, good looking and hopefully pleasing to knitters.

For the American market we have shirts and canvas bags at http://shop-us.worsted-knitt.net/ and coffee mugs at Zazzle

In Europe, we have a wider selection of shirts, but no mugs yet. The shop is divided in two: our main shirt shop in http://shop-eu.worsted-knitt.net/.

If you can’t find what you like in there, or want a better bargain, take a look at our 'factory outlet' at Shirtsofberlin. There we have a limited colour choice, but to compensate, normal unisex t-shirts and cheaper prices.

Not On Our Watch Cover

The book Not on our watch by John Prendergast and Don Cheadle tells us about the genocide and mass displacement of three tribes in Darfur, Sudan, and what we can do to end the atrocities.

This book is not a literature masterpiece, nor is it trying to be that. It is written,so that people reading it would become aware of Darfur, and take action. Therefore the book's three main themes are true stories from Darfur, ways of taking action, and real stories on how people have taken action already. The book is for the American public, but the message stays clear - do something!

One on, one off the needles

This weekend I finished my third stash busting scarf, knit from one end to the other with big needles and funky yarns:

I am one for many projects on the go, so I decided to start the string bag. I decided to use some old cotton I got from Lidl at the beginning of my knitting career. Here's the humble beginnings.

Bottom knit with 3,5mm/4,5mm needles, will continue with 6mm circular.

Yarn: Zettl Cotton-Classic

I'm very eager to see how this will turn out, and will it be usable as a shopping bag.

I was updating the Ompelukerho site, and in search of the monthly changing link I get to choose, I surfed to Animalia, and the petitions listed there. I chose something else to link, but I did sign 2 petitions I had not signed before.

The first goes to the French government, and pleas that they stop using a cruel trap when catching birds. The trap has some food between two stones, and then the bird comes to eat it, a third stone falls on the bird. Many birds are not dead immediately, but suffer a long time before dying. The petition is in German and French.

This year's sock stash

I went to Germany for Christmas. Germany is the land of sauerkraut, good beer - and sock yarn! Marvellous balls of thin, lovely variegated Regias and Lana Grossas in a broad variety of colours. Not to mention the 50 eur gift card to a LYS there... and the sale in the other LYS... so here the goodies for you. These should keep me occupied trough 2008.

1. Lana Grossa Fantasy in reds and yellows.

2. More Lana Grossa - Mega Boots Stretch in blue and red.

Finished bed socks on holidays

Back from the holidays - the longest I've had since a while, almost 2 weeks - and slowly starting to get the hang of normal life again.

I got myself a new laptop, and a game to go with it; that's why I haven't blogged since New Years. First breaking my brain with Vista, and then hooked on the game I haven't even knitted this year yet!
