I played around with some more Kool Aid, and thought I'd show you the results before they go on a ball or a project even.
First one's made with two sachets Orange, one Cherry. The yarn weighed 127 grammes.
Next yarn weighs only 50 grammes, so I only used one sachet of Ice Blue, and one Grape. The grape is too heavy here I think, I was hoping for a more turqoise yarn... but I'll learn for the next time.
To celebrate all mothers and other lovely ladies, there is a short discount campaign at the EU shirt shop on all women's apparel - shirts, hoodies, spaghetti tops... the bags and unisex shirts are not included. All this at 1/3 discount!
All you have to do is go to the shop , place your desired items to the shopping basket, and give the coupon code: "FRAU2008". That's it! You get a lovely shirt for 2/3 of the normal price! The action ends at 5th of March, so don't ponder too long. Deliveries all over Europe.
I am so proud of myself. I made this pair of beautiful, not-beginner socks , and was even able to modify them to match different yarn, and make them knee high. Way to go, Knitt!
Pattern: Baudelaire by Cookie A. Yarn: Novita Nalle. Needles: 2,5mm, 2mm for the cuff ribbing.
Started in November, finished February 08.
It was my birthday last Thursday, and I was lucky enough to be pampered with good cooking and a massage by Nick. I also got some presents!
First, from Nick a beautiful rose, and a CD from Tamara Dearing, an indie singer-songwriter from Kentucky.
Next, I received a package from Finland, from my sister. She knows I love knitting, and she knits herself, too, so I got some lovely yarn and patterns, as well as needle felted bookmark and a pin with reflecting surface.
I had a competition below - help me pick a pattern and win a coupon to our shirt shop, but no one seemed to know what I should do with the yarn!
So, this is the last chance! Drop me a line, and the coupon is yours.
The gift coupon is worth 5$ and goes to our American Shirt shop where the you can order anything and get 5$ discount. Most suitable for orders from the US/Canada!
This offer stands only a few days! Hurry!
I thought I'd show some of the products we've (me and Nick) have sold recently. From the EU shop, Teaandcakes got herself a longsleeve with the To knit or not to motive. Also available in the US shop (a few postings down here's a competition with a prize of 5$ discount on anything in the shop).
In my Tuesday group I sold two customised bags - enquire trough a comment here or trough Shirtsofberlin .
I'm so excited! As you may know, I am a relatively new knitter, and have never yet knit a 'bigger' item like a sweater or cardigan (except for a baby cardigan) Somehow I just don't get round to it, even though I'd like.
Well, I thought I'd start with small steps. So I cast on Hug.
I reconed it's a garment, almost like a cardigan, but not as big and intimidating. Plus I really like it and will need someting like that for my always-cramped showlders.
I'm knitting it in Novita Rustica, an half-wool-half-acrylic funny yarn, that has been discontinued, on size 6mm dpns, to avoid the seaming. I am unsure if the size is right, and I am not 100% sure I have enough yarn. I do hope so! So wish me luck, I might need it.
I have been very productive this weekend! I finished two projects, the Danica scarf and the String bag, both relatively new projects, meaning they have not waited on the needled months and months. I am pretty proud of myself how they turned out, and that I actually finished (finished! Like darning in the ends and all!) two projects in a weekend. Usually when I finish one thing, I cast on a new thing or two to make up for it. However, here they are.
The Magic Toyshop by Angela Carter was an experience. Not a book I would read or listen normally - I picked it up from the library because I had decided to try something new for a change. Well, this was something else. Written in the 60s, the book tells a story of the young Melanie, suddenly left orphan and forced to move to his mean and violent uncle's house and to work in his toyshop. The story is, somehow, magical, and it's characters are somehow not of this world, incorporeal so to say, even though they live their lives as any of us would.
I have a problem. I joined a knitalong , where the point is to take the ugliest / most non-inspiring yarn you have, and knit something nice from it. The problem is, I haven't a clue what to do with it!
Here's my yarn:
It's icy white and blue, and made of wool, mohair, cotton, viscose, acrylic and polyamid. Can you believe that! It's an old Finnish yarn called Cotton brush, and I have these two balls of it, 200 grams (big balls, I don't know the yardage) It's light yarn, but should be knitted with size 8mm needles (US 11 that is).
I'm thinking a shawl might work. But then again I dont know which!
I bought and read The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind as a recommendation from my mentor, an auditor from Houston, Texas, USA. The book tells the story of Enron, the 'largest energy company in the world', it's rise and fall.
I love the photography in this book! Erika Knight's book Simple knits for easy living has many easy patterns for the home - throws, cushions, bathing bags and rugs. All of them are so beautifully photographed, that I would like to knit them all right away. I will, someday.
The book has an interesting take on yarn and knitting - there are patterns for parcel string and sisal string, and the statement is 'simple is beautiful' meaning no fancy stitches, but beautiful textures and peaceful colours. This appeals to me a lot.
One of the throws will be on the needles pretty soon, I hope.
