I haven't been very productive a knitter last week, there's quite lot of stress at work, and so many other things to do than knitting. However, Easter came and helped to conquer the knitting deficit. Here some FOs to show, both finished during Easter.
First, Nick's Dashings are done.
Needles: 4mm dpns. Yarn: Marks and Kattens Eko Ull, which I got as a swap present from Else during Coffee swap 3. Started and finished in March. Modifications: shorter cuff with only two cable rounds, longer finger cover. The size is small.
We do not only have interest to knitting, but animal welfare too. This is such a good idea from the World Society for the Protection of Animals:
The latest fantasy book I read was Fortress in the eye of time by C. J. Cherryh, which I finished this weekend. It's a story about wizards and their creations in a time when wizardry is not very highly regarded. Mayryl, an old wizard, creates (or raises a soul for) a boy Tristen, who after Maury's death must leave his home and seek new allies. He does find them, but also many enemies and war.
My new job started last tuesday, and now I have to commute at the rush hour. It’s not far, but it’s still a 30 minutes spent in a glorious Dublin Bus. I decided that I need to get my yarn out of the closet and start knitting in public.
I haven't shown any recent knits in progress, but only published them when done. I think some of you might enjoy seeing the WIPs too, so here goes.
First, I'm working on the second Dashing for Nick. I'm modifying them a bit - making the cuff shorter, and the finger bit longer, to make them more usable in the Irish weather. The yarn is organic wool, and it's gogreous! Smooth, not itchy, beautiful... I like it. Here's the mitt.
Next, after finishing that cat bed, I decided I can't be without a cat anymore! I miss them so much, and I only have the pig to model my cat beds. That can't be. So I'll knit myself a cat:
Here's the new design!
I'm so excited! Today I uploaded the new design to the EU shop, and there are new shirts and bags in various colour cobinations available. This orange and yellow shirt is my favourite.
Order that, and a bag to go, and avail of the Easter action - 20 % off and free delivery on orders over 35 euro. Just give the code OSTERN2008 at the checkout.
The US shop will follow, we just need a bit more business there before we can bring in new designs. Shouldn't take long, I hope.
After I knit one cat bed for charity / animal shelter before Christmas, I decided I will definately need to make more of them - they are fun, use up fun fur and novelty yarns, plus they are for a good purpose. I hope to give this to a local no-kill shelter as soon as possible. The bed is shown here with a toy pig, as unfortunately I don't have a cat who could model it.
The bed came out quite small, but I hope a petite cat can enjoy it.
Nara are planning on starting a campaign against foie gras in Dublin. As I think foie gras (ducks/goose's pathological, fatty liver) is the most stupid and cruel thing one could eat, I searched the menupages.ie for restaurants that serve this shit in and around Dublin. You couldn't believe how many I found, and I didn't even go trough every menu! See the list after the jump.
20 % off and free delivery! Just order for over 35 euro, and give the code OSTERN2008 at the checkout. Valid until the 30th of March.

A devastating analysis of the food business' says Sunday Telegraph of this book. I have to agree. Not on the Label by Felicity Lawrence shows how our food is made, and what's wrong with it. She goes undercover in farms and food processing units, investigates the fields of fresh veg in Spain, travels along with a huge food lorry, and sees how a bread factory works.
When in Germany during last Christmas holidays I stocked up on sock yarn (as shown in an earlier posting). I also bought Regia Galaxy, self striping yarn which will make little 'galaxies' in the sock; little rings of Jupiter so to say. It must be the coolest idea ever, this yarn!
I started a pair of socks from it for the Sock Knitters Anonymous February sock, which had to have a new heel i.e a heel the knitter hadn't made yet. My choice of sock was a basic stockinette sock with the German heel from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks.
Library Confidential is a hilarious book! The author Don Borchert's ten years experience as assistant librarian makes you think of the library in a quite different way that you may have used to! He works in an L.A public library, and tells stories of drug dealers that hide in the toilets, some fellow librarians who lose their patience in very non-librarian way, people who it seems chronically borrow books, don't return them, change their name and come back to get a new library card!
I finished a pair of beautiful Fetchings in Noro Kureyon yarn couple of days ago. The funny thing is, just started them a couple of days ago! These were so quick! And they are gorgeous. I have been wearing them every day since they were finished. Here they are posing in Dun Laoghaire, where we had a little day trip today.
Knit on Noro, on 4mm bamboo needles. I modified the length after the thumb: I added another repeat of the cabling, to offer some more protection to my fingers.
