Margareten
Margareten

I'm so late in posting this. We actually went there some weeks ago, but I just haven't gotten around to show you the lovely pictures.

Margaretenhöhe is a district in Essen, built around 1910-1920 and very very beautiful! There's a lovely park, where we went for a walk. These are photos from there. There was so many different kinds of leaves on the ground! I can't wait to see this park in the summer.

A cat bed

I made a cat bed. I'm not quite sure how successful it is. It's my own design, but it has the problem the side doesn't stand up properly. I had to prop it up - I sew the side togehter, and sewed another thread through the upper end of the side. It stands now, but I'm not too happy. I will need some more development before I publish the pattern!

I was recently made moderator of the Ravelry group "Darfur - end the Genocide", which came as a surprise. But I'm up for a challenge, so I'll do it. It's a small group anyway, the problem is there's no real discussion or "life" in the group. So please if you have any interest (and a Ravelry account) please join the group!

Anyhow, the nomination made me think a bit more about Darfur again. So I thought I'd institute the "Darfur Fridays" at least for a while - to show people the genocide is not over, and we should't forget Darfur. So here's some links for you:

See satellite picture from Darfur - see the burned villages yourself. To think about being driven from your home to live in a refugee camp... brr! I am lucky.

Guess what? I'm making more socks.

What do you know, I'm making more socks. The Sukkasato KAL is still going on for a couple of weeks, and I'm trying my best to knit as many socks as I can for it.

I have one pair ready, again child size. I cast on 32 stitches with Lana Grossa Meilenweit held double, and made the foot with some Novita Julia mix blend yarn (but really soft!) My needles were 2,5-3,5mm, a mix of what I had free... I think I must have lost some needles somewhere!

What I'm also working on is - another pair of child's socks! This is worked on Regia Galaxy held double, on the mixed set of dpns, I think I have 36 stitches all over.

Ok, this is a bit old (from 2006) but this bloody lab is still alive and abusing animals!

Please do what you can to stop this pervert "science" lab.

Some new socks for Sukkasato

First the bigger ones, from the rest of Lana Grossa yarn I used for the Hederas (which are also done! But not to be shown here as they are a christmas present)

Needles: 2,5mms. 40 stitches around, 4x1 ribbing.

The second pair is from small scraps I had left - they have 28 stitches around in 2x2 ribbing, made with odd needles from 2,5 mm to 3,5mms!

I had been secretly working on something nice for Nick, and finally got it done and threw it into the washing machine to felt.

And did it felt! In the middle of the cycle I took it out, but it was alreade felted useless - a ball of felt rather than the object it should have been. Shit! Hours of work (and expensive 100% wool) went to the trash. I was so disappointed! Crap.

But, now I at least know that this machine is much more "efficient" than the one we had in Ireland. Blah. Now I need some tea and sympathy, and some breakfast too. Maybe then I'll cast on the present again.

Lottery

First of all I want to say a big Thank You to everyone who commented on my new blog looks. All the feedback was lovely and much appreciated! Thanks so much, and please do stop by again :)

I wrote all names on little pieces of paper, and Nick as my Mr. Fortuna pulled out three names. That means, I am happy to announce the winners!

First, a beautiful canvas tote from the Shirtsofberlin Worsted Knitt collection goes to Jackie! Congratulations!

Second, something handmade by me  -a mobile / slim camera / PDA cozy (my own design) - goes to Ria F! Hope you like it!
