I'm playing with big stakes here - showing my Mum's Christmas present here. I'll just hope she won't look here before Christmas...
Well anyway here it is. The WIP has finally become an FO, and not without a decent amount of cursing and concidering whether to rip or not to rip - and most often decicing not to rip, because with the lace pattern I would be very likely to make more mistakes when picking the stitches back on the needle after ripping the original mistake.
This was no easy piece for me. I'm not too good with lace, I notice that over and over again. Maybe I just need more practice?
But it's done, and it's good enough! Here's the specs:
Started: in September
Yarn: Local warehouse "Nova Exclusiv" brand for the store NKD, "Multigarn" 100%acrylic.
Another Friday, time to do another Darfur posting - I still have to do them, the bloody war is still going on, the President of Sudan is still on the loose.
This time I thought I'd link a site here in Germany, to any German readers I may have (please say hi at the comments!) Hilfe für Darfur is a humanitarian group which helps Darfurians with money and work. Currently they're working on a school project - please read more at the site.
I made these sets as Christmas presents for a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old girls. I hope they like them!
First the turqoise set (Pinja's set from Ullaneule)
For the hat, I CO 104 stitches and made the hat with 3,5mm dpns. The hat is ca 18 cm long - I made the first version too short, had to rip back to knit more rows. The mitts were made 100% according to the instructions.
The yarn is 7-Veljestä Moniraita (I think).
The red set is Rinsessa also from Ullaneule.net, for the 7 year old.
I cast on less stitches as the instruction says to fit a child's head. Also the mitts I cast on 40 stitches instead of 50. The hat is made as instructed, the mitts I modified to mits-mitts, not fingerless.
So, I actually knit even more mitts! I had promised Ompelukerho to knit some fingerless mitts for their Christmas sale too, so I did, even though I couldn't really see let alone make another mitten. But now they're done, and I really really will knit something else now!
They're all made with 3,5mm needles, and the black yarn is Novita Julia. The firts pair's effect yarn is G-B Marengo, in the other two it's Debbie Bliss's Maeino aran. They all used ca 30-40 grams of yarn. The 'pattern' is generic ribbing and stockinette. First twi pairs have 36 stitches all over, the last one is smaller with 32 stitches.
I'm very happy how they turned out, and plan to knit myself a pair too.
Hooray for me! After three months, I finally copied the last post from the old Joomla-based blog to this new Drupal one. Now all the content is here, and you can see my old projects, read the older book reviews, and so on.
I'm so happy it's done, just wanted to share with you all!
There's a verb in German "übertreiben" meaning to exaggerate, in a way. Say, if someone is getting their 4th cup of coffee, one might say "Übertreibs nicht"; "don't overdo it". I think I've been "übertreiben" first with my socks, and now with the mitts. Not in a bad sense, but I think for a while I'll stop this mass production of similar items for a while. These mitts were for the local animal shelter's open door day market to be sold for the shelter's benefit. Therefore all my own designs / generic patterns. They sold out quick!

So, the promised last mitts:
The black and red mitts (with the same design as the grey Marengo mitts from last post) are made from Nick's recycled scarf. It was one of my first projects and I gave it to Nick christmas 2006 - it was way too short and narrow, so he gave it to me to redo. I remade it into these. It's Debbie Bliss Merino Aran (maybe?)
Second pair, funky and colorful! I liked these. Basic cables, for narrow hands.
Last but not least, basic ribbed mitts from Novita Julia.
Here they are, all my 7 pairs of mitts. 5 of them were sold when I left the market, 4 hours before closing - I hope they made some money with them.

Tässä 7 paria kämmekkäitä - hauska oli neuloa, mutta pian jotain muuta..!

Just a hi to everyone, I've been ill the whole last week and just now getting on my feet again. Boy that was a mean cold I had!
But, I have knits to show and stories to share - later this week or next weekend at the latest!
So here they are, my last entries for Sukkasato-KAL which ends with October.
**
**
The first two are for preemies, 28 stitches around, 1x1 ribbing and stockinette, nothing special, but hopefully they will warm someones small toes! They are made with Regia yarn, the yellow-black ones with 3,5mm needles, the red ones with 2mm needles.
