I did use a pattern for this, I just can't remember which one! Anyway, meet my glorious ruffle boa! I knit it on 6mm long, long circular. I started out with 90 stitches, then increased every stitch every other row. The yarn is appropriately Bernat Boa (which was terrible to knit with I must say!)
I had 150 grams of yarn, and ran a bit short. I had to do some tricks at the end of the scarf (I basically just pulled the remaining yarn through the stitches rather than really casting them off) and one can see the end is much less ruffled than the starting end. But I thought, I don't mind, so no-one else should either!
I like it a lot, it's really long and in dramatic colours. I don't know how much wear it will get, but I did wear in on my birthday to Rocky Horror Show musical. I loved wearing it, plus the musical was just fantastic!
More Hamster knitting! I made a hat for me, and a hat just for fun.
First my hat. It's the Rinsessa pattern from Ullaneule-web magazine (in Finnish). I made one of these as a Christmas present and just loved making and trying it on, so it was clear I need to make one for me too.
I used Sandnes Garn Smart 100% superwash wool, which knits on 3,5mm needles. I cast on 130 stitches, and the hat came out really roomy, but not too big. No other modifications here! Love the hat, and been wearing it already! Grams: 69 used!
The second hat is not for me, indeed it looks so bad on me that I couln't even model it here (ha!).
This Hamster month KAL has really kicked some stashbusting energy in me. I've been knitting like crazy the last week. Let me show you what I've done.
First the dust mitts. Some inspired soul at the Hamster blogs got the idea of using up eyelash yarn by making them into thumbless mitts which can be used to dust surfaces without a cloth. Well, I had lots of eyelash left, plus the acrylic scraps left from the Log cabin blanket, so I made some. Seven, actually. They weigh altogether 259 grams, that's 2+ balls of eyelash and the rest is acrylics.
This month is Hamster month which means no buying yarn, and knitting as fast as I can from stash. Well, I've been doing really good! Just take a look at the blanket. What do you think it weighs?
900 grams!
And that all from stash; the not-so-lovely acrylic stash I accumulated last year when arriving in Germany "Oh my there's yarn in the supermarket, I must hoard all of this NOW!" I used almost two 400 gram giant balls of the stuff, plus some older Poundworld acrylics from Ireland.
Here are the official stats:
Pattern: Mason-Dixon Baby Log cabin blanket, sligthly modified.
Needles: 6mm
Yarn: NKD Nova Exclusiv 100% acrylic, and the already mentioned Poundworld scraps - yarn held double throughout the project.
Yardage: whopping 1800 metres!
The colours are not quite right in the photos, rather in between the two pictures. Very happy combination though!
Another FO! These were finished a few weeks ago but I'm just so behind on updating the blog! Sorry... well here they are.
The yarn is Novita's 7 Veljestä, a thick Finnish sock yarn. The pattern is actually from the 7 Veljestä ball band! A very simple ribbed cuff and plain foot, with some colour changes to cheer them up. The socks were knit on 3,5mm dpns.
I'm modelling them in the pictures, so that's why they look so droopy and big - they are! On my feet. On Nick's feet they're just right!
I have another beautiful crocheted pencil case pattern to show you! I feel so happy that so many generous designers want to take part in this small action to help Sudanese childern. Read more of our campaign here.
This pencil case is by Tanesha Manigo aka Hippie, who has been having trouble with her Ravelry designer page, so I promised to publish the pattern here in her name. Please see the pdf pattern attached in this posting. As always, you can see all the available patterns on the right hand side navigation!
I usually only review books that are available in English language, but this one was so interesting I decided to write a few lines even though it's apparently only available in German, Italian and maybe Portuguese... let me know if you find it in English.
It's called "Das 11-Minuten-Mädchen" which means "The eleven minutes girl", written by Sonia, who goes by the artist name Mariana Brazil.
She's a former prostitute, originally from Brazil but she came to Europe to work and stayed even after her "career" was over. It's a very interesting biography, where Mariana tells about her day to day life, her friends and collegues, all women with personalities and different histories. She pictures the life in a very down-to-earth way, not making it prettier or more terrible than it actually is.
I work out at home, and sometimes I do yoga or pilates too. The floor is really cold though, so I thought I'd knit myself some yoga socks. They came out quite nice, even though if I were to make them again some changes would be made... I've used them a couple of times now and they really do make a difference!
Stats:
Yarn - Meilenweit Team Colour (Spain!)
Needles - 2mm dpns
Pattern - Yoga socks by Just Jussi
Mods - none intentional!
Would-do mods fo next time - I would finish with at least 10 rounds of 1x1 rib and not just 5 (it curls). I would also cast on and cast off more tightly, the heel opening is a bit loose as it is.
