For my last piece in the USA 2016 travel journal I will return once more to New York State, to the town of Ossining where we attented a monthly event called The Ossining Documentary & Discussion Series. What that is is a public screening of a documentary film and a podium discussion about it and its theme afterwards. The film we saw was called "The True Cost" and it about the fashin industry and "fast fashion" in particular - here's a quote from the :about text of the film "This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them and the impact it’s having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking new documentary film that pulls back the curtain on an unseen part of our world and asks us each to consider, who pays the price for our clothing?"

The film was very interesting, and though I have seen other films on the theme, this one was very well made and informative also. The discussion afterwards was also very interesting, even though al three panelists were representing the clothing industry in a way, so quite homogenic group, but I think it is not the purpose of the discussion series to have a huge controversy in the discussion round, but to educate. For that purpose the panelists were an ok choice.

Anyhow, the idea of the The Ossining Documentary & Discussion Series is just genious. I met the mayor of Ossining at the screening and it's so wonderful how supportive the town is about such "hippy and green" ideas. If I understood correctly, it ws actually her idea to start these screenings in the first place. Wow!

If you are anywhere near Ossining do check out the series, or start one in your own town maybe? You can check their site at https://ossiningdocumentaries.org/ and their Facebook page.

So, this was the last piece of my travel journal into the US! I hope you liked it, and let's see what's next in store for me and Worsted-Knitt.net! If you liked what you read, please do leave a comment too!
