FO
For Christmas 2011 I gave exactly one knitted item as a present, and this is it!
In fact, it's not even a real present... you see, my mother-in-law had a few balls of Lana Grossa Giava Print, a viscose and linen blend yarn left over from a vest a friend of hers had made her - so she sent the balls to me with a note "I'd like a slightly triangular scarf, with a pretty edging, but have no idea on how to make one - will you please knit me one?"
I was a bit annoyed, but I started looking and found the perfect pattern: knit in one piece (without crazy sewing-on-lace-border activity), slightly triangular, and free!
The pattern is called Chinook Scarf and it's available on Ravelry.
Can you see why I call these the Lighthouse Socks? Even in dim light, they shine like a lighthouse! Made with self-dyed yarn (with Kool Aid), they really "stick out".
As I had two balls á 50 grams, I wanted to make the socks as long as possible, I chose the toe-up method. I used a generic toe-up pattern, but I can't remember what it was called!
It wasn't groundbreaking, though: I "figure 8" casted on 11 stitches and increased every other round at the sock's edges until I had 60 stitches. I then knit plain to the heel, which was a short row heel. The pattern claimed it would be a "simple no-fuss, no-w&t, no holes" heel. Ha! Either I misunderstood or the heel is crappy. The pick-ups on the knit side were fine, but the ones on purl side are full of ... holes.
I always surprise myself when I finish a pair of socks. I'm currently not very into socks, so every pair feels like a big accomplishment. I finished these in July but as it happens, the blog sometimes has hard time keeping up.
Anyway, here are the specs:
Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Mega Boots, one 100 gram ball; plenty of yarn was left over
Pattern: Fawkesby Monkey Toes (Rav link)
Needles: 2,5 mm dpns
Modifications: I did five repeats of the pattern on the cuff and not four as suggested in the pattern. Other than that I followed the pattern.
Yet another shawl! I'm getting rather good at making them I must say. This Revontuli (check Ravelry for English pattern) sure looks good!
I followed the pattern precicely, I just left some rows out because I didn't have so much yarn. Well, actually I would have had so much I later noticed (my hand is so loose that I always need much less yarn than recommended) but it doesn't matter, the shawl is small and beautiful as it is.
The yarn is Kauni, and I used 110 grams of it. It was knit on 5mm needles, mostly during the trip to Southern Germany to get married at the end of June!
Another FO! These were finished a few weeks ago but I'm just so behind on updating the blog! Sorry... well here they are.
The yarn is Novita's 7 Veljestä, a thick Finnish sock yarn. The pattern is actually from the 7 Veljestä ball band! A very simple ribbed cuff and plain foot, with some colour changes to cheer them up. The socks were knit on 3,5mm dpns.
I'm modelling them in the pictures, so that's why they look so droopy and big - they are! On my feet. On Nick's feet they're just right!
I don't think I've never finished this big an item so quickly. That might be explained with a) I loved the pattern and b) I wanted to wear this gorgeous piece during Christmas. I can remember blogging about it on the 7th of December, and I actually wore it during Christmas!
It's the Versatility shawl-cardi-sleeve-knitted-item, and I love it. The yarn was good, the pattern fascinating and beautiful, and I managed to find gorgeous buttons for it too. I had to really concentrate on the pattern, but I managed to make the shawl with very little mistakes.
I used 6mm needles, and the yarn was a merino blend from my stash - I cannot find any info about this yarn online! Must be a really old one... The colour's the trick of this yarn, it's such a luminous and deep red tone!
