Ireland

What a lovely day it was! I first started off with the wrong foot by knitting for 30 minutes in front of the wrong gazebo. Only when I took a stroll around the park I found the actual gathering. We were first at the band stand, but then the band came and we moved to the lawn to enjoy the music (which was very good!) At one point some drops of rain came down, but they soon gave up as we refused to budge.

There was a good turnout, at one point I counted 27 knitters!  I also met another Finn on holiday,  which was nice as I am usually the sole Nordic knitter in the Dublin groups.

Today was lovely. It was sunny and really windy, so me and Nick decided to go to Phoenix Park to fly his kite. This is the first time we fly it since arriving in Ireland over 2 years ago!

It was really lovely to see the kite fly! It's amazing how loud it is, when the kite moves through the air.

While Nick was working the kite, I knit a couple of rows on my new Carolina socks.

My cousin left for a holiday, and as she has a car but no permanent parking space, whe brough her car over to our place (we have a parking spot but no car). She was also kind enough to let us use it while she's gone. So, of courise, when Saturday arrives, we pack our stuff and get going. To County Wicklow, the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough.

Serkkuni lähti lomille ja jätti auton parkkiin pihallemme - oli vielä niin mukava että lupasi, että saamme käyttää sitä. No totta kai heti lauantaina oli lähdettävä matkaan. Menimme Wicklow'n maakuntaan, Wicklow'n vuorille ja Glenalough'iin.

It was a beautiful one-day-trip, well we started early. There was a lot of walking in Glendalough,  and more beautiful scenerey as we drove back up to Dublin via Arklow and Wicklow. Here's some photos for you (after Read More)

An Irish Pub in Dublin
An Irish Pub in Dublin

For once I had an active weekend, meaning I actually got out of the house, and did something else than knitting, blogging or reading at home. I met my cousin and her husband on Saturday, Nic wanted to come too but was busy. So the three of us went for few pints in the city centre.First we sat in a church that has been trasformed to a pub. No, that was a weird experience. I liked the pub, but the whole idea of drinking in a holy place did kind of freak me out.

The next one was much more traditional Irish pub with music and all. We had our third pint there, and after that it was alreadt time to get home.

Ankle socks
Ankle socks

It's been raining the whole day today! I woke up listening to rain, and have been looking at it really the complete day; there's been no pause whatsoever.

Luckily our backyard jungle seems to enjoy it.

I've also been working on my ankle socks, comfortably indoors.

The pattern is from Alison and I definately like it, but I'm not quite sure whether I did the heel turning correctly. It did turn, and it's looking fine, but somehow I missed quite a lot of stitches on the way. I cast them back on, because I couldn't fathom where I'd lost them, but now I think the sock is looking / feeling far too wide and big!

Dublin Botanic Garden
Dublin Botanic Garden

Yesterday we finally met my cousin, who moved to Dublin a few months back, but unfortunately I hadn't been able to meet her before (for some reason her number had disappeared from my phone, and the email address didn't work, either!) Well, now we finally got togther. We first took the bus to the city, and see what someone had made: Yes, it is a origami swan made out of a Dublin Bus ticket. It was so lovely, I felt really touched - to make something so beautiful out of such an ordinary and very unaesthetic piece of paper.

Once we got to the centre, we walked up to the Botanic Gardens, where we then met my cousin. The walk around the gardens was lovely, no sound of cars or other noise, just the wind in the trees and a few ducks and squirrel. My cousin told about a redheaded duck which lives in Switzerland, but originally comes from Siberia - oh how I laughed when trying to picture that bird in my head.

Today it looked so bad outside!

So I thought it's better to stay inside and bake a peach pie.

I think I succeeded in baking a fine pie, since the above picture has been taken ca. 30 minutes after the pie came out of the oven - and remind you there's only two of us eating it. I tried to find the original recipe for the super easy originally-an-apple-pie, but unfortunately I only have it as a copy-paste Word document.

Irland's election

As foreigners we're not allowed to vote, but still need to look at the 'Vote No. 1' pollution every day going to work, coming home, going to the store, in our mailbox... Don't you think that the old saying might have some truth in it: 'Less is More'? election Worsted Knitt now has its own campaign:
