knitting books
If there's one book which I have continuously looked at at the book store, browsed through, found everything lovely, and put the book away again, it would be this one. I must have held Fitted Knits: 25 Projects for the Fashionable Knitter a hundred times before I finally ended up buying it a while back. Why the back and forth? Simple - I'm not much of a sweater knitter, and to buy a book with just sweaters seemed like a waste. So why did I buy it?
Last autumn I suddenly remembered my love for the band Green Day and went to see them in concert even. For a while I felt like the fangirl I used to be 10 years ago - it felt fantastic! So when I learned that Billie Joe's wife Adrienne Armstrong is a knitter and has made a book with Vickie Howell, and learned that the book will be concentrating on ecologically conscious knitting (something very close to my heart), I just had to get the book!
Kitty Knits: Projects for Cats and Their People by Donna Druchunas is a great knitting book for a cat lover! It's filled with beautiful and useful knits for cats and the cat owners. I have already knit the mouse and am impressed. Such an easy and small pattern, but very clever! Possibly the best written pattern I've ever made (not counting the first confusion about the bobble, which was to become the mouse's ear... I knit the bobble first, then started the mouse!
I love the photography in this book! Erika Knight's book Simple knits for easy living has many easy patterns for the home - throws, cushions, bathing bags and rugs. All of them are so beautifully photographed, that I would like to knit them all right away. I will, someday.
The book has an interesting take on yarn and knitting - there are patterns for parcel string and sisal string, and the statement is 'simple is beautiful' meaning no fancy stitches, but beautiful textures and peaceful colours. This appeals to me a lot.
One of the throws will be on the needles pretty soon, I hope.
Bought the book Pursenalities by Eva Wiechmann a few days back. Got it as second hand, and hadn't seen it before - it just sounded so good!
It has 20 lovely felted bags in it, all of them seem easy enough, and a few are truly beautiful! A few I don't like, but that's normal. They are all made with Cacade 220 yarn, which I can't get here, so substitutes will need to be found... so the book will sit in my shelf for a while before I knit something from it, as I am trying to limit my yarn purchases.
Anyhow, for a 5 euro purchase it was a good buy and I am sure the book will fulfill it's purpose at some point.
