journey
The Third German Ravelry Meet is currently underway - I was able to go yesterday with four other ladies from our knitting group in Essen. As Frechen is only an hours drive from here, it wasn't too big an effort.
We arrived too early and drank a coffee in a cafe nearby, then headed to the Meet. It was already crowded, especially around the yarn stands, so I quickly ran through the area to get an overview, and then sat down with a friend to knit.
At some point the Finnish Delegation arrived (three Finnish ladies living in Central Europe) and so I sat with them, knitting, for a few more hours. We then had a bite to eat and the Finns took off to Cologne.
And whoops, it was already 6 pm! So we decided to head home.
Last Saturday was great - me and three knitting friends made a road trip to Antwerpen, one of the biggest cities in Belgium and a fashion metropole (both facts I didn't know before)
We started off at 9 am sharp, drove through the Netherlands and arrived in Antwerpen at around 11 am.
I don't know about you, but for me it's mind blowing just to think about driving through three countries (Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium) in two hours, and just to see an exhibition! Europe is really compact in this corner of it.
Anyway, we then started with the exhibition Unravel at the fashion museum, which was the reason for the whole trip. Take a look at the photos and you'll see a few highlights.
As you may have guessed, my two weeks of "making a dream come true" was a trip - to Cuba!
I've been hoping to travel there since I was 15, and this year a lady in my knitting group finally talked the sense in me to indeed make this dream come true - it's not that travelling to Cuba is impossible, it's just that I always taught it would be very expensive.
Well, not necessarily true. In February we booked our last minute tickets and the last two weeks I've been enjoying all the culture, warmth and Mojitos Cuba has to offer. I loved most of it - and found everything very interesting. Just leave a comment if you'd want to know more or want to ask something!
But now, please take a look at the pics and share the trip with me!
PS. I did not bring my knitting - at 25° the yarn just doesn't feel that good!
It's been a week since I went to Bocholt with some new knitting friends of mine. Why did we go there? Well, we wanted to see the knitting exhibition (link in German) the textile museum has on at the moment, and we wanted to have a good time knitting in the train there and back.
Here are a few impressions of the day. Everyone had a good time, and I was really happy to get to know a few new, nice people, too! Some of us even contributed a bit to the knitting show ourselves (or decorated the front yard of the museum, at least) with a few pieces of guerilla knitting.
Like promised yesterday, here are a few impressions from my trip to Finland, my native country. All these pictures are from my home town and were taken by my darling husband Nick. I like living in the city, but there's nothing that can beat the peace of the (Finnish) countryside. It's a true vacation for the soul.
This summer seems to be bad for my knitting content - I just can't knit when it's over 30 degrees, not even cotton or bamboo. So it was in Finland, too, where I spent last week (I came back today) on holiday visiting my family with my DH. It was so hot I spent my days swimming and drinking juice in the garden. I'll post a few photos of the Finnish summer soon (courtesy of Nick), plus my new yarn goodies and a recycled sweater bag I finally lined on my Mum's sewing machine! Watch this space.
On Saturday we had a WWKIP (World Wide Knit in Public Day) meeting in Bochum, which is a neighbor city to Essen. So I packed myself up well (it was freezing) and took the train to Bochum. I first went yarn shopping a bit (more about that later) and then at three headed to the meeting in the cafe in Bochum city park.
There were a few knitters I knew from Essen, and many I didn't know from Bochum, Dortmund and surrounding cities. Plus, there was the amazing camel Dumistvieh, whom you can see in the third picture!
The weather here has been good for the last weeks - the weekdays are cold, but come weekend, it's 20 degrees and sunny! As today was the same, clear skies and warm enough to wear a t-shirt, we (= me and DH) decided to take advantage and take the train to Oberhausen, a neighbor city, and visit the Gasometer, which was also one if my 101 in 1001 list items.
Sorry for the silence for the past two weeks! Maybe you'll forgive me when I tell you that I've been on my honeymoon in Japan, and frankly blogging has been the last thing on my mind!
Me and my husband had a truly wonderful trip! Here are a few impressions of the many, many things we saw and marveled at. I hope you'll give me a few days to get back on the knit blogging rhythm - I just got back yesterday and am still very much jet lagged!
