Four Ways to Help Darfur Right Now

Picture: UNAMID - Albert Gonzalez Farran / www.albertgonzalez.net

It's time for another Darfur Friday.

The genocide in Darfur is not over, and we cannot forget the people who are fighting for their lives and the right to live in the areas they call home.

That's why I've put together a little list of four simple ideas on how you help Darfur NOW:

Creative Flea Markets are fun!

Kreativflohmarkt

Last Sunday I took part in Kreativflohmarkt / Creative Flea Market in our local art centre & creative space Unperfekthaus. It was organised by Charly from Natron & Soda who also comes to our knitting group. It was so much fun!

I had stitch markers, self dyed wool and shirts from Marvellous for sale. I didn't sell much, but did manage to end up on the plus side!

Reusing a sweater and a pillow case, aka I made a sweater bag

Sweater bag

It's not often when I do any kind of craft that doesn't include yarn, but the seldom times when it happens, I really like it. This time the final product was successful too!

It's a long time ago when I accidentally felted Nick's sweater, I made a sweater bag out of it - here's the link to the type of sweater bag tutorial I used, I couldn't find the exact one I used.

Vacation for the soul - impressions from Finland

Finland 07/10 by Nick Jais www.dominikjais.com

Like promised yesterday, here are a few impressions from my trip to Finland, my native country. All these pictures are from my home town and were taken by my darling husband Nick. I like living in the city, but there's nothing that can beat the peace of the (Finnish) countryside. It's a true vacation for the soul.

I love Finland (but I didn't knit)

This summer seems to be bad for my knitting content - I just can't knit when it's over 30 degrees, not even cotton or bamboo. So it was in Finland, too, where I spent last week (I came back today) on holiday visiting my family with my DH. It was so hot I spent my days swimming and drinking juice in the garden. I'll post a few photos of the Finnish summer soon (courtesy of Nick), plus my new yarn goodies and a recycled sweater bag I finally lined on my Mum's sewing machine! Watch this space.

What are the others up to?

It's too hot to knit! Or at least it has been the last week, now it's getting a bit cooler to the kinds of summer temperatures I can function in - less than 30 degrees celcius.

Therefore I have very little knitting content to show, so I though I'd show the content of others! Here are a few of my favourite blog posts last week - first some with knitting and then some with simple living. Enjoy!

Ruhrpott Shirts at Marvellous!

The Pott

I'm so excited! My DH Nick opened a new shirt shop at www.marvellous.de to promote his new Ruhr area shirt designs - I just want to share the beautiful designs with you, too!

All shirts are organic and they are printed using the screen printing method. These two "Metroplex Ruhr" motifs are the ones currently up for sale with more on the way.
